Quick answer
How do I calculate calories from the amount of food eaten?
Multiply kilocalories per serving by the number of servings eaten, then add entries across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. This tool performs arithmetic and keeps a temporary log; actual values depend on the recipe, quantity, and product.
How to use this tool
- Choose a sample or enter a food name, then verify calories per serving against a label or trusted food database
- Select a meal and enter servings eaten; the tool multiplies the values and adds an entry
- Review meal totals, compare with your own goal, and export Print, Excel, PDF, or TXT if needed
How the calculation works
Each entry uses entry energy = kilocalories per serving × servings. An entry is rounded to no more than two decimals before meal and daily totals are added. The initial 2,000 kcal goal is a general comparison guide, not personalized advice. Replace example values with a matching nutrition label or a verified food database value.
Examples
| Example | Input | Expected result |
|---|---|---|
| One serving | |
130 kcal |
| Half a serving | |
100 kcal |
| Several meals | |
970 kcal total |
Limitations
- The tool totals energy only; it does not assess protein, carbohydrate, fat, fibre, sodium, vitamins, or overall dietary quality
- Preset values are not laboratory results for a specific recipe or product, and a serving size is not a recommendation of how much to eat
- The daily goal is a user-set comparison value; the tool does not estimate individual energy requirements or diagnose health
- A page is limited to 100 entries, 0–10,000 kcal per serving, and 0.01–100 servings per entry
- Entries exist temporarily in this page and disappear when it is reloaded or closed
Frequently asked questions
Is 2,000 kcal right for everyone?
No. It is a general guide used on nutrition labels. Individual needs can be higher or lower depending on age, sex, height, weight, activity, health, and personal goals.
How accurate are the sample food values?
They are estimates for demonstrating the calculator. Recipes, brands, weight, and serving size change the result. Check a nutrition label or a database entry that matches the food and amount eaten.
Can this tool plan medical treatment or weight loss?
It should not be used as medical advice or a personalized nutrition plan. Seek a clinician or registered dietitian for medical conditions, pregnancy, growth, eating disorders, or treatment goals.
Does the site store my food log?
No. All entries are processed in the browser, no database or localStorage is used, and the log disappears when the page is reloaded or closed.
