Quick answer
How can I read a QR Code from an image or screenshot?
Choose a JPG, PNG, or WEBP containing a QR Code, or take a photo. The browser decodes it locally and shows the exact payload plus any recognized details for copying or export. The image and result are not uploaded. Check links and payment data before use because decoding is not a safety check or transaction verification.
How to use this tool
- Choose a JPG, PNG, or WEBP up to 12 MiB, take a photo, paste a clipboard image, or drop an image into the tool
- Wait while the browser finds and decodes the QR Code; if it fails, crop closer while keeping a clear border around the symbol
- Review the exact text and best-effort details, especially URL domains, Wi-Fi passwords, payment amounts, and references
- Copy the data, open only a reviewed http/https link, or export Print, Excel, PDF, or TXT
How data extraction works
The tool downsizes the image in memory and first tries the browser Barcode Detection API. If unavailable, it falls back to a self-hosted copy of jsQR. When the full image fails, a bounded set of overlapping center and corner regions is tried to help with small QR symbols. Tested rules then classify payloads such as http/https, WIFI, mailto, tel, geo, vCard, and payment TLV structures. The exact decoded text is preserved, URL destinations are not requested, and classification is never presented as certification.
Examples
| Example | Input | Expected result |
|---|---|---|
| HTTPS website | |
Shows the same URL, classifies it as a website, and identifies www.thcount.com |
| Thai text | |
Shows every original character and classifies the payload as text |
| Wi-Fi network | |
Separates WPA security, the THCOUNT_GUEST network name, and example123 password |
| Phone number | |
Shows the original payload and extracts +6612345678 without placing a call |
Limitations
- The tool reads one image and reports the first decoded QR Code. It does not support other barcode types, PDF files, or batch reading.
- Results depend on resolution, lighting, focus, perspective, damage, colors, and the quiet zone; QR error correction cannot guarantee every image will decode.
- Classification is an inference from text patterns. Extended or unknown formats can be classified incorrectly, so the exact decoded text is authoritative.
- The tool does not reputation-check URLs, open links automatically, scan malware, or certify data ownership or correctness.
- A payment structure, amount, CRC, or reference does not prove authenticity, uniqueness, settlement, or account credit.
Frequently asked questions
Is my QR Code image uploaded or stored?
No. The image is read in current-tab memory. Neither the image nor payload is sent to the server, and the tool does not use cookies or localStorage for the data.
Can I read a screenshot on the same phone?
Yes. Save the screenshot and choose it from your photo library, or use Paste image if the browser grants clipboard access.
Is a decoded link safe?
That cannot be concluded from decoding. The tool displays the URL but does not visit it, scan for malware, or verify domain ownership. Check spelling and provenance before opening it.
Can this verify a payment QR or authentic transfer slip?
No. Parsing a structure, amount, CRC, or reference does not prove the recipient, authenticity, settlement, or credit. Verify through the bank or account statement.
Why was no QR Code found?
Common causes include blur, low light, perspective, a missing quiet zone, a tiny or damaged symbol, or multiple codes. Crop to one code and improve clarity.
