    How do I use the online random name wheel?

    Enter one name per line, choose the number of winners, and select Spin. The wheel picks from the eligible names and displays the result immediately. It uses crypto.getRandomValues with rejection sampling to avoid mapping bias, but has no disclosed seed, signature, witness, or external certification, so it is not an auditable prize-draw record.

    How to use this tool

    1. Type or paste one name per line, then choose whether each line is a ticket or duplicate names collapse.
    2. Choose the winner count. Open Wheel rules and settings to change speed, theme, countdown, or duplicate handling, then select Spin or press Space.
    3. When the winner dialog opens, press Enter to confirm or Escape to close it. Use Full-screen wheel when you want the wheel to fill the display.
    4. Keep the winner or remove the winning ticket, then copy or export the report when needed.

    How the calculation works

    The tool normalizes the list and applies the selected rule to create 2–100 eligible tickets. It obtains a 32-bit word from Web Crypto, rejects values in a tail that cannot divide evenly by the ticket count, and selects the winner index. The spin only visualizes the selected result, and the visible Reduce motion control can make the wheel land immediately.

    Limitations

    • There is no disclosed seed, signature, witness, tamper-evident log, or external certification.
    • Do not use this page as the sole record for gambling, regulated prizes, rights allocation, or disputes.
    • The tool cannot verify that the source list is complete, accurate, or eligible; the organizer must review and disclose the rules before spinning.
    • The wheel may hide some visible labels for large lists, while the textual eligible list and result remain accessible.
    • History is temporary and disappears when the page reloads, navigation occurs, or the tab closes.

    Frequently asked questions

    Does the visible wheel determine the winner?

    No. Web Crypto and rejection sampling choose the winner index first, and then the tool calculates a landing angle for that ticket.

    Do duplicate names increase the chance of winning?

    Yes under the default each-line-is-a-ticket rule. A name on two lines has two tickets. Choose Collapse duplicates if every normalized name should have one ticket.

    What happens when I remove a winner?

    Ticket mode removes only the selected source line. Unique-name mode removes every equivalent source line so the collapsed name cannot return to the wheel.

    Does the site store names or spin history?

    No. Names, results, and ten history rows stay in tab memory. There is no form POST, fetch, database, localStorage, sessionStorage, or URL payload.

    How do CSV upload and multiple winners work?

    CSV files use a named name column or the first column and are processed in the browser. You can pick 1–10 winners without replacement within one spin, so the same ticket cannot win twice in that spin.

    Which keyboard shortcuts does the wheel support?

    Press Space to spin, Shift+C to start the countdown, Enter to confirm the winner dialog, and Escape to close the dialog or cancel an active countdown.
